Barclays Premier League: Arsenal awesome win 7-0 over Everton

Arsenal replied last night to Tuesday's night Chelsea record breaking win at Old Trafford against Man United with their best Premiership win ever, demolishing the newly Champions League qualifiers Everton 7-0. It is the fourth best win ever since the Premier League starter in 1992 and the highest Arsenal win under Arsene Wenger. The Gunners are now a deserved 2nd in the table, 11 point adrift record points title winner Chelsea and they have directly qualified for next season Champions League whilst Man U and Everton need to go through the qualifications. Last night win made them however the best goal scoring Premiership team ahead of Chelsea and Manchester United

Arsenal were 3-0 up at the end of the 1st half with goals scored by Van Persia, Pries and Vireo. All the goals saw the direct involvement of Dennis Bergkamp, who had probably played his last home game with Arsenal. The Dutchman also managed to score his own in the 2nd half along side with Pires second of the evening, an Edu penalty, who was himself on his last home game and there was also the first Arsenal goal by the Frenchman midfielder Flamini.

There where moments of emotion in the game when an overwhelmed crowd cheered and called for Bergkamp to stay another season. The Gunners coach Arsene Wenger declined however to confirm, in an after game interview, the Dutchman future with Arsenal. Thierry Henry made his long waited return to first team football after injury. He looked sharp and fit and was instrumental in causing the penalty, which was taken by and scored by Edu. His performance left himself and his coach quite satisfied in view of full recovery for the FA Cup final next week against Man United.

The Gunners also reintroduced Sol Cambell, returning with his usual reassuring figure at the centre of the defence after a long recovery from injury and after Wenger decided for a prolonged test of the future chances for the young and promising central defender Senderos. This time to give way was Kolo Toure.

The top of the table clash saw Everton, after a week spent in celebrations for reaching their Champions League qualification, having a really poor display and not putting up a strong fight for the night as expected. In fact most of Arsenal goals came, albeit being mostly a magnificent display of first touch play, without having any of the blues defenders touching the ball or going for a tackle or interception.

Perhaps the Everton formation 4-1-4-1 was inadequate on the night to the traditional Arsenal 4-4-2. Marking on the defensive third was vague and the midfield line were not close enough to support the defence so that play was always pray of the Arsenal midfielders. Up front Everton combined to have only three attempts on target in the all game but they should have scored with the first of them. Everton coach David Moyse was more than right in declaring himself ‘ Totally embarrassed’ after the game.

Arsenal form looks now well restored after the last two months string of wins. Based on last night performance they look to be the natural favourite to win the FA Cup over Sir Alex Fergurson’s team, now in descending form. It will be revenge over their archrivals of the last ten years of Premiership battles. In fact the sour winter defeats against their fiercest opponents, sent the Gunners morale and confidence crushing out of their unbeaten record long run and eventually out of the title race.

It will not be an easy grab for Arsenal however, as Manchester United sees the FA trophy as the last consolation prize left to save their season. . A scenario not quite familiar for the two giants of English football who were forced out the limelight this year by the final and long due consecration of Chelsea.
